We all know, even if we won’t admit it, when moving into New York City, everyone is excited to run into celebrities on the street. I definitely did not think it would happen to me on my second day living in Manhattan, let alone end up jump starting my career. In 2012, I began working for award winning Fashion Designer, Betsey Johnson, executing events such as public appearances at Macy’s Herald Square, sample sales at Betsey Johnson’s Hampton's home, and six New York City Fashion Week shows.
The events world can take you to any industry. After my experience in fashion, I brought my talents to Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment. There, I planned events for the Brooklyn Nets, the New York Islanders, and partner events that took place at Barclays Center, Nassau Coliseum, and the Nets HSS Practice Facility. Three years and a promotion later, I was ready to dive deeper into the events industry and landed a position at FIRST Global Events Agency. Working on the Bank of America account, I planned exclusive and personalized events for clients, such as VIP dinners at top restaurants with celebrity chef demonstrations, and theater events including a private reception with the director and a backstage tour.
As I proved my event planning skills at FIRST, I was moved to the position of Event Manager on the new Google account, planning events internally for Google. I worked on guest speaker talks, conferences, celebrations, and more. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I was so thankful to be working for Google. The switch from live events to virtual events was near seamless, and I was given the opportunity to grow my skill set in event technology and virtual event ideas and offerings.
I realized I enjoyed planning events for a tech company, and when Amazon Ads reached out to me on LinkedIn with a job opportunity, I knew I had to explore it. After four and a half years with FIRST, and almost three on the Google account, it was a bittersweet goodbye. Working for Amazon Ads has been action packed since day one. When I started, I was immediately preparing around 150 internal and external speakers for the first live Amazon Ads unBoxed flagship conference. Since that successful event, I have planned and supported speakers to speak on Amazon Ads stages at large conferences and events worldwide. Thinking back, running into Betsey Johnson on the New York City streets in 2012 has shaped me into the event planner I am today.
